Play a key role at the heart of the decision-making process at Wellington City Council! We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to join the Democratic Services team.
Democratic Services is part of Wellington City Council’s City Secretariat with responsibility for providing high quality administrative support and procedural advice to elected members; facilitating efficient, legal and democratic decision-making; and managing elections, polls and election-related processes.
The environment demands political sensitivity, discretion and the maturity to deal with demanding situations. As well as an ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain a sense of humour, you will be able to think on your feet, and appreciate the importance of attention to detail.
You will have some experience of basic accounting practices and be able to navigate around a budget document. You will demonstrate excellent administration, time management and relationship management skills, and be able to effectively prioritise a demanding workload.
As Councillor Liaison Officer you will:
Provide high quality administrative support to Councillors and the City Secretary
Coordinate Councillor training and development needs and organise travel and conference registration as required
Provide support to the City Secretary in monitoring the Democratic Services budget
Process all payments and expense claims for elected members
Assist in the planning and implementation of elected members orientation and induction programmes.
A knowledge and appreciation of local government would be an advantage.
