The Westland District is located on the West Coast of the South Island, covering 11,000km of pristine rainforest, pastoral farmland and mountainous terrain. Westland is one of the most sparsely populated regions in New Zealand and is world renowned for its picturesque features and lifestyle opportunities.
The present Chief Executive’s contract expires mid 2010 at which time the position will become vacant. The Local Government Act requires each Local Authority to advertise the position of Chief Executive when a vacancy occurs. Appointments can only be made for a term of not more than five years. The incumbent is eligible for re-appointment and intends to apply for the position.
Reporting to the Mayor and Council, the Chief Executive will be responsible for the overall management of the organisation, and will be a strategic thinker who can provide strong leadership to staff. Also of importance, is the ability to display sound judgement while also providing high level policy advice and guidance to the Council.
